The OTHM Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement enables learners to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding to assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a variety of contexts, such as a workshop, classroom or other training environment. It is closely aligned with the standards for Assessment and Quality Assurance of Assessment. The qualification consists of two mandatory units for a total of 10 credits: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, and Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding. Learners demonstrate their competence by producing evidence from their work activities. On completion, learners can progress into employment as an assessor or to further qualifications such as the Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.

Learners should be at least 19 years old at the start of the programme.
Access to a real work or training environment with learners to assess, as the qualification requires practical assessment of at least two learners.
Occupational competence and current knowledge in the vocational area you intend to assess.
A minimum of Level 2 in English or equivalent, as written records and reports are required.
No prior assessment qualification is needed; this is an entry qualification into the assessor role.
Understand the key concepts, principles and requirements of assessment.
Select and compare appropriate assessment methods for different learners and contexts.
Plan assessment, including a holistic approach, and manage risk through the planning process.
Involve learners and others and adapt assessment arrangements to meet individual needs.
Make valid, authentic, current, sufficient, reliable and fair assessment decisions and give developmental feedback.
Understand quality assurance, standardisation and the legal and good-practice requirements of assessment.
Prepare for and carry out assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in the work environment.
Maintain accurate assessment records and confidentiality, and apply equality and diversity in practice.
